Iran’s Historic Palaces Draw One Million Visitors Each Year

More than 515,000 people visited the Saadabad and Niavaran palaces in the year 1400 (2021-2022), according to official statistics, while another 588,000 people visited Takht-e-Jamshid and Persepolis. These numbers represent one-fifth of the total visitation to museums nationwide.

Iran Open Data research on museum statistics reveals that Saadabad Palace, with a 13% share, and Niavaran Palace, with a 7% share, were the most visited museums in Iran in the year 1400 (2021-22). In total, these two palace-museums received 515,000 visitors.

According to published stats, Golestan Palace, constructed during the Qajar dynasty, is the third most visited museum, accounting for 4.3% of the total museum visits. Following that, Chehel Sotoun in Isfahan from the Safavid architectural heritage, and Naderi Museum in Mashhad, with shares of 3.8% and 2.4% respectively, had the highest visits.

Fars province has the highest number of historical sites, attracting a third of the total historical site visitors.

The Hafeziyeh of Shiraz accounted for over 14% of the total site visitors. Persepolis, with 10%, and Saadiyeh, with 9%, were the second and third most visited historical sites in Iran, respectively.
